Exploration is a special mission feature which allows you to explore a map with spots for rewards.

Basics[]

Exploration in Event Horizon can only be accessed by Ships with frigate class.

To begin an exploration you can go to any solar system, select a planet, and select the Explore option. This requires ten fuel to begin. Select the Frigate of your choice and begin the exploration. You will start in a level with many green dots around you. Each of these dots is a spot location of interest. The dots size represents the spot proximity from player's position. While you're traveling you may encounter hostile enemy ships varying from independent drones to a capital ship. Player may attempt to defeat them or flee by flying off away.

The exploration is complete once all the spots cleared. If player exits prematurely or defeated, the exploration can be retried with additional cost of stars and continued from last progress.

Spot types[]

There are two kind of spots you may encounter during explorations:

  • Resource spot which presented in various shapes; To clear this spot, you just have to move your ship and stop on top zone of the designated object of interests. The scan progress will start and completed after awhile. During the scanning, stealth is disabled, cloaking or moving out of the zone also reset the scan progress.
  • Outpost spot; If you are approaching a green dot and it suddenly turns into multiple red dots then stop and move very carefully. What you've encountered is a hostile outpost surrounded by turrets with various weapons. If you destroy the outpost, then you have a chance to receive a blueprint which most players consider to be the most worthwhile reward from exploration. The turret(s) protecting the outpost doesn't have to be destroyed to be counted as completed.

Planets[]

The spots available during exploration also vary based on the planet it is performed on.

  • Gas Planets: Provides fuel, toxic waste, and occasionally stars.
  • Terran Planets: Usually the spot provides toxic waste and scraps. Outposts are more common and they can drop modules, blueprints, stars, and alien technology.
  • Barren Planets: Provides minerals, scraps and occasionally stars.

Hive[]

Hive is a special exploration mission which can be accessed by visiting nodes with *Icon to be added* icon. The exploration provides rewards related Contagion related technology in addition to the usual variety of resources and blueprints. Usually contains multiple alien outposts in the form of massive cyst-like structures. Very dangerous for the unprepared.

History[]

Exploration was originally added in patch 0.10.0 which allowed you to land on a planet and scavenge for resources and blueprints. The player controlled a rover the same way they controlled spaceships, combating drones. This implied it was a smaller scale.

In 1.2.0 exploration has been simplified down to scanning, and all planets are now scan-able.

In 1.3.0 the exploration vehicle returned as the Scavenger, however the scanning system remains in place.

In 1.8.0 the scanning system was removed and replaced with exploring using a Frigate class ship.

In Event Horizon Frontier exploration remains very much the same as in the original. However instead of planets, you explore the vast expanses of empty spaces in solar systems. Exploration missions can be found by searching for stars with a pulsing signal and once explored will reappear after a set amount of time has passed.

Differences[]

  • You are allowed to use ship up to battleship class for exploration.
  • Player has 2 stock chances to revive.
  • No retry. If player exits prematurely or run out of life stocks, the node is gone along with the progress.
  • Enemy ships now may respawn when returning on previous path

Obtainable Blueprints[]

The blueprints can be obtained from the Frontier exploration differs from the Event Horizon version.
